About the event

SPEAKER

Mark Hilliard is an Associate Application Engineer for Low Voltage Adjustable Speed Drives at Toshiba International Corporation in Houston, TX. He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington. He has over 2 years of experience in the electric motor and drive industry, with most of his career in his current role with previous experience in design R&D. For his role, he provides technical support, pricing quotations, and product trainings.

SEMINAR DESCRIPTION

The scope of the training will cover the fundamentals of motors and drives, and how they work in tandem to run applications all over the world. Considerations when drives are applied will be discovered and discussed in length. Hands-on programming will teach the fundamentals and explore into further applications most encountered out in the field. An emphasis on maintenance and troubleshooting will be integral to this training which skill will be translated into all drives possibly encountered during your career.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand basic polyphase induction motor theory and the relationships between frequency, voltage, current, and torque.
  • Recognize application considerations such as torque requirements, acceleration and deceleration time, regeneration, flying load starts, and speed regulation.
  • Become introduced to the basic concept of vector control and understand the differences between V/Hz operation, Sensorless Vector, and Feedback Vector Control.
  • Recognize issues such as lead length, harmonics, and circulating currents and how these issues may be mitigated.
  • Employ protective functions on applications requiring braking, flying load starts, overhauling, and torque limiting.
